The National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) helps school districts prepare their principals to be outstanding instructional leaders in high-performance, standards-based schools.
Principals today are being called on to produce strong gains in student achievement in an environment of unprecedented accountability for results. To produce these results, principals need to know a lot more about how to improve the quality of literacy and mathematics teaching, think strategically, build strong staff teams, share responsibility for leading the school, get staff and parents on board, build strong professional development programs, implement fully aligned standards and instructional systems, and manage for results.
With the support of the Carnegie Corporation of New York, The Broad Foundation, the New Schools Venture Fund, and the Stupski Family Foundation, NISL has created a world-class program to help practicing principals meet these challenges. NISL works with school districts and other organizations to enable them to deliver this high quality executive development program directly to principals.
The product of two and a half years of intensive research and planning, the NISL Executive Development Program curriculum combines face-to-face instruction in workshops, seminars and study groups with state-of-the-art interactive web-based learning. Leading experts from around the world are featured in the curriculum.
