| New federal legislation requires that the U.S. Department of Education fund reading and other reform initiatives in schools only if the initiatives are "research based", that is, if there is independent evidence that reform strategies are based on practices proven to raise student achievement. |

| The America's Choice design strongly endorses the legislation's commitment to research-based reform. |

| In fact, our school design is based on that idea. Our staff conducted an exhaustive study of the research on effective educational systems and practices, both in this country and abroad—an endeavor that took us to 21 countries. Then we wove the most effective reform elements we found into a coherent, comprehensive school design. |
