Mathematics Navigator is an intervention program that includes:
  • A focus on student mastery of critical concepts, skills, and problem solving

  • Systematic, targeted support to correct gaps and misconceptions students have about critical concepts students need to master for higher level mathematics

  • Well-crafted, explicit, internationally benchmarked instructional materials, aligned with state standards and assessments, that support any math curriculum

  • Expert guidance and support for instructors, including daily lesson plans and strategies for questioning and highlighting gaps and misconceptions

  • Instructional modules tailored for delivery in either elementary or secondary environments, but flexible enough to be used in any school at any grade level. Elementary materials are designed for daily, 30-minute lessons. Secondary materials are designed for daily, 45-minute lessons.

  • Pre- and post-tests, and interim checkpoints, that enable teachers to target instruction to studentsŐ individual profiles and to prepare them for success on state accountability tests

  • An approach to classroom management that builds student self-sufficiency and confidence as math students and engages them in a community of learners
An Intervention Program to Repair Gaps and Misconceptions
Closing the gaps in misunderstanding requires more than just a software program or remediation.
Students take math every year, but many are struggling to master key mathematical skills and concepts—and to apply what they know to problem solving. Students have gaps and misconceptions in their knowledge of mathematics.
These gaps set students up for poor performance on state tests and, later, for failure in algebra. Students begin to hate math and give up in confusion.
Yet many schools have no way of reversing this cycle of failure. Their math programs move students along whether they are ready or not, year after year. As a result, students fall further and further behind. Parking students in front of a computer and hoping that a software program will yield a short-term bump in performance will not clear up their misconceptions or build the conceptual understanding that they need to be successful math students.
It doesn't have to be this way.
20-Day Modules that Supplement Any School Math Curriculum
America's Choice, working with esteemed national and international mathematicians, offers a different solution: Mathematics Navigator, a flexible intervention program that features discrete, 20-day modules of explicit instruction on a specific concept that are intended to augment and enhance, not replace, the school math curriculum. Mathematics Navigator works with any school math curriculum or textbook.
Mathematics Navigator is a revolutionary approach, based on the best practices of top-performing countries, that targets specific gaps and misconceptions about key concepts that students need to master to be successful in advanced mathematics. Instead of watering down essential content for striving students, Mathematics Navigator quickly builds up students' knowledge and essential skills with more time and targeted instruction.
Mathematics Navigator can be delivered during school hours or in tutoring, after-school, weekend, or summer programs. Once students demonstrate mastery of a targeted concept, such as fractions, decimals, or word problems, they exit the program. They are better able to participate in their regular math class with new confidence.
