Ramp-Up Mathematics is a comprehensive system, including:
  • A year-long curriculum for 90-minute classes tailored to the needs of adolescents who have not experienced academic success. Unlike remedial classes, Ramp-Up Mathematics gives students a real opportunity not only to master the basics, but also to leap forward to the college preparation curriculum
  • Well-crafted instructional materials, including daily lesson plans, homework assignments, and effective ways to explain and illustrate key concepts
  • A high-quality training program, giving teachers a solid grounding in an accelerated and differentiated approach to classroom instruction
  • Ongoing technical assistance and professional development that demonstrate and reinforce effective strategies and techniques—and help teachers analyze student errors
  • Assessment tools that enable teachers to tailor instruction to students’ individual profiles and to prepare them for success on state accountability tests
  • An approach to classroom management that builds student confidence as learners and engages them in a community of learners
  • A complete set of student materials that engage striving students and support their learning

Solving the mathematics crisis in secondary schools requires more than just a new textbook, online courses, or a few teacher workshops.

Many students begin having serious problems in mathematics after 4th grade. Their problems are compounded in middle school because they haven’t learned the basics, can’t apply their skills to problem solving, and have little conceptual understanding of mathematics. The longer students stay in school, the worse they do in mathematics compared to students in top-performing countries.

Geometry and algebra are gatekeepers to college entrance and are often prerequisites for success in the workplace. But, unless secondary schools have effective programs to help striving students, many of them will fall too far behind to successfully complete—or even enroll in—advanced math classes.

Most secondary schools, however, do not have mathematics programs that take an algebraic approach to basic arithmetic—and thus prepare them for algebra. Instead, students take remedial classes that do not address their needs, fix their misconceptions, or prepare them for more advanced work. They begin to hate basic math drills and give up in frustration. As a result, many middle and high schools are not achieving Adequate Yearly Progress.

We can do better.

Mastering the Basics and Beyond

America’s Choice, working with the foremost international and national mathematics specialists, created Ramp-Up Mathematics, a revolutionary instructional system designed to accelerate the mathematics achievement of low-performing middle and high school students so that they can get back on the path to college or prepare for a career.

Ramp-Up Mathematics adapts the best practices for teaching and learning mathematics into an acceleration program that works for low-performing students.

Ramp-Up to Pre-Algebra is designed to accelerate the learning of students entering middle school two or more years behind their peers—and to prepare them to complete Algebra I by the end of 8th grade.

Ramp-Up to Algebra is designed to accelerate the learning of students who are not ready for Algebra I as they enter 8th or 9th grade. Students who successfully complete Ramp-Up to Algebra in 9th grade can complete Algebra II by the end of 12th grade—on track with the math they need to enter college or career preparation.
