Writers Advantage provides a one-hour time block for daily writing, giving students time to practice and succeed.

Helping students become effective, fluent, and confident writers requires intensive, multifaceted, extended effort. It calls for a blend of tools, training, and support that is easy for teachers to implement, that works for different groups of students, and that is sustainable over time.

The Writers Advantage format provides for a rich variety of activities, including:

- Daily opportunities for independent, self-directed writing
- Focused lessons on particular aspects of writing, such as writing processes, genres, conventions, or rubrics, allowing teachers to model proficient writing strategies
- Whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one instruction, differentiated to meet individual students’ needs
- Whole-group and small-group discussion and sharing of writing strategies, works-in-progress, and completed assignments
